Appetizer Trays: First Impressions Last

When cooking, you must never forget to please the eyes before the tongue. Appearance and presentation play a big role in food appreciation and are the first steps to entice or encourage someone to try the food. It is very important to take note, that regardless of the dish's taste, no one will try it if the food is poorly presented.

This is especially true when it comes to appetizers. The appetizer course is the food that the guests will see first. You want to make a good impression. You would not want your guests to think that the following meals will also look and taste horrible as the appetizers.

One way to avoid this dilemma is to decorate your appetizer tray. Decorating the appetizer tray makes it look more pleasing and of course, appetizing!

Here are some tips on how you can make your appetizer tray look more mouth watering:

  • Serve only fresh vegetables. Fresh vegetables are not only crisper and superior in taste, but also have a brighter color.
  • Try to slice raw vegetables in a uniform size. Raw vegetables look better if they are sliced in the same length and width.
  • Play with colors. Arranging the food by color is one way to make the dish more attractive. Place the carrots, yellow bell pepper, zucchini and red bell pepper alternately to make the tray appear colorful.
  • If you are serving dips, place them in a special dip tray. This type of tray is especially designed to hold the sauces while displaying its rich colors.
  • Add garnishes on the tray. You can place an artichoke rose on the side of the food or you can sprinkle chopped celery on the dipping sauces.
