Shrimps pack a lot of flavor in their small frames. These decapod crustaceans are caught and consumed by humans in all places of the world. In fact you can find shrimp in almost all kinds of cuisines. It is tasty, nutritious and can be prepared in a number of ways. It can be dried, preserved, fried, grilled and baked.
Shrimp appetizers are well appreciated, they allow the true flavor of the shrimp to come out. Although it is quite tedious to deshell and devein shrimp, the efforts are worth it. Here are some shrimp appetizer recipes you can enjoy making in your own kitchen.
Shrimp Summer Rolls with Asian Peanut Sauce – In a large bowl, toss some deveined shrimp with salt, olive oil and black pepper. Preheat a grill and place the shrimp on it, allowing to cook for 2 minutes per side. The shrimp should be opaque before you take it off the grill and set it aside. In another bowl, mix some carrots, ginger, lime juice, cabbage, garlic and teriyaki sauce and stir it well. Wet a piece of rice paper with some water and spread it out on a clean plate. Spoon some of the carrot mixture onto the center, add a shrimp on top and shape it into a long log. Roll the rice paper and tuck the ends to seal the rolls. To make the peanut sauce, whisk teriyaki sauce with hot sauce, ginger, black pepper, peanut butter, sesame oil, garlic and salt. Serve the sauce in a small bowl. Cut the rolls in half and arrange on a platter and serve.
Marinated Shrimp – Stir some olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic and tomato sauce in a large bowl. Add some salt, cayenne pepper and basil to it. Add peeled and deveined shrimp to the mixture and make sure the pieces are evenly coated. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least an hour, occasionally stirring it. Place the shrimp on skewers and cook them on an oiled, preheated grill. Make sure the shrimp is opaque before removing from the grill and serving it.
