Time – the one thing everyone wants more of. One of the excuses people give out when asked why they don't know how to cook good food or why they don't give parties is the line “I don't have the time.” But who says great food needs a lot of time to prepare. If you're discouraged about giving parties and preparing food because of the lack of time, then fret no more. Great food can be made in a short amount of time.
Think those fancy canapes and crudites are hard to make? All it takes to make those same appetizers are a couple of minutes, fresh ingredients and imagination. Here are some quick appetizer recipes that you can use for the next party you will be giving.
Party Time Nachos – This recipe is fun and easy to make. It doesn't even involve actual cooking but you will need to bake the nachos and mix some of the ingredients. Put a layer of tortilla chips on the bottom and side of a pie pan or baking dish. Mix pureed black beans with chopped cilantro in a small bowl and then spread this generously over the tortilla chips. Bake this in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for not more than 10 minutes. Combine salsa and sour cream in another bowl and when the tortilla chips are taken out of the oven, spoon this over the baked tortillas and bean topping. Spread guacamole dip over the salsa and sour cream layer and season with salt to taste. Add cheddar cheese, olives, tomatoes and green onions and you're all set for an authentic Mexican botana.
Bacon Mushroom Crowns – This recipe will only take less than twenty minutes to cook and prepare. You will need to slice off and separate mushroom stems from mushroom caps because you will be using the caps to serve the actual bacon mushroom mixture. Chop the mushroom stems throughly and mix them with Swiss cheese shreds, crushed corn chips, cooked and crumbled bacon, crushed garlic cloves, red wine, softened butter and minced onions. Spoon some of the mixture into the mushroom caps and arrange the filled mushroom caps on a baking sheet. Put this on a broiler and allow it to brown and bubble before serving on a tray.
